Sun Burnt Skin

Relief from Sun Burns, the Easy Natural Way by Janice Kumar
The human skin is delicate and reacts to prolonged exposure to sun light especially the Ultra Violet light. Prolonged exposure to sun rays leads to red inflamed skin which can cause itching and burning sensations. Too long an exposure to sun, can have detrimental long term effects on the skin.
There are many sun protection creams available in the market with variable SPF levels. In general, what ever cream, you use, you need to re apply same every 2-3 hours for it to remain effective.
The best protection against sun burn is to wear long sleeved cotton shirts and pants and try to protect the neck and face with sunglasses and a sun hat. Incase this is not possible and the desire to get a tan is strong, then you need to be prepared for a sun burn which can happen to anyone.
In general, dark skins are better equipped to handle harsh sun compared to light skinned people. This is nature's way to protect people in harsh climatic conditions.
If the skin has been sun burnt, some natural remedies that you can use are as follows.
These remedies are effective in light sun burn cases and will provide relief after the first application itself. You will need to repeat them every six hours for a complete solution.
An easy to use remedy is to take 3 tablespoons of milk and add a pinch of soda bicarbonate to the same. Dab this mixture on the face and affected areas with a cotton swab. Let it dry naturally and wash off with cold water after fifteen minutes. You will find a cool sensation and relief. Repeat this remedy, 4 - 5 times to find complete cure.
Another remedy suited especially to oily skin which has been sun burnt is to mix one tea spoon of potato juice with one teaspoon of lemon juice in a cup. Apply this mixture with a cotton swab to the affected area and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash off with cold water to find relief. Repeat 3 - 4 times every six hours to find a change in complexion and relief from that sun burn.
If the skin perspires and smells bad and is sun burnt the following remedy will be useful. Add 20 ml of rose water to 5 ml of lime juice and apply with a cotton swab to the affected areas. Leave this overnight and get up in the morning smelling fresh. Wash off with cold water to find relief from sun burns.
Banana is a natural skin whitener and used in many beauty treatments also. Mash a banana in a cup and apply it on the affected areas. Leave on for 15 minutes and then wash off with cold water. Repeat this every six hours to find relief from sun burns.
It is highly recommended that prolonged exposure to the sun be avoided. Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause many long term problems including premature wrinkling, skin discoloration and in severe cases, a form of skin cancer. Severe sun burn cases need to be treated in a specialized hospital as they are a serious skin condition. Stay safe..

Over the past three decades, the incidence of melanoma, the most deadly type of skin cancer, has increased much more sharply in young women than in young men.

Melanoma incidence in people 15 to 39 has risen and fallen over the years since data collection began, increasing among white men to 7.7 per 100,000 in 2004 from 4.7 in 1973. But at the same time among white women, cases rose to 13.9 per 100,000 from 5.5. The trend was also evident for later-stage tumors less likely to be misdiagnosed, suggesting this is a real increase rather than simply a result of more accurate surveillance.
The report is based on data from nine tumor registries managed by the National Cancer Institute covering Atlanta, Connecticut, Detroit, Hawaii, Iowa, New Mexico, San Francisco-Oakland, Seattle and Utah. The database includes records on more than 3.5 million tumors categorized by racial group; the researchers used data only from whites.
The upsurge among young women, the authors write in this month’s issue of The Journal of Investigative Dermatology, parallels reports of increased exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunburn and the use of tanning beds.
“Since this is a cancer-register-based study, we don’t have actual exposure information on the subjects we evaluated,” said Dr. Margaret A. Tucker, the study’s lead author and director of the institute’s human genetics program. But because “sun exposure and tanning bed use has markedly increased in adolescent girls and young women compared to adolescent boys and young men, we are concerned that this increased exposure may be related to the rising incidence of melanoma.”

Colonel Karuna Amman, the Tamil paramilitary leader who was jailed for entering Britain on a fraudulent passport and investigated by the Metropolitan police for alleged war crimes, has left Britain.
The 45-year-old former Tamil Tigers commander returned to Sri Lanka yesterday. It is not clear whether he was deported or opted for voluntary repatriation after withdrawing an application for asylum.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch condemned the government for failing to bring war crimes charges. Karuna's breakaway paramilitary group, the Tamil People's Liberation Tigers (TVMP), which now supports the Sri Lankan government, has been widely accused of abducting teenagers, forcing them to serve as child soldiers, inflicting torture and carrying out summary executions.
Karuna, whose full name is Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan, entered the UK on a forged diplomatic passport. He was arrested in a police raid on a London flat last summer.
During his trial for immigration offences at Isleworth crown court in January, it was said that the passport and UK visa were supplied to him by the Sri Lankan defence minister. The country's high commission in London denied the allegation. Karuna was sentenced to nine months in prison.
"The British government had an alleged war criminal in custody for six months and couldn't manage to file charges," said Brad Adams, the Asia director at Human Rights Watch, in London. "This was a rare opportunity to hold a leader of the Tamil Tigers accountable for horrific human rights abuses, and the British government blew it."
Amnesty International called on the UK authorities to improve witness protection schemes for those prepared to testify in war crimes cases. It said Britain should establish "an independent and specialised police and prosecution unit with sufficient resources to deal with crimes against humanity, torture and war crimes".
In response to a freedom of information request submitted by the Guardian, the Crown Prosecution Service explained why the war crimes investigation had been terminated.
"A file of evidence relating to one serious allegation was submitted to the CPS for advice," the CPS said. "Following review, the prosecutor advised that there was no realistic prospect of a conviction against Colonel Karuna for any criminal offences based on the evidence that has been submitted to the CPS."
Karuna's wife and children live in the UK. Asked about Karuna's departure, a Home Office spokesman said: "We don't comment on individual cases. Those people who come here and break our laws will be removed."

JKNPP calls for dismissal of Azad government
Jammu (PTI): The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) on Friday dubbed the government's decision of revoking the order on land transfer to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) as 'unconstitutional' and demanded dismissal of the chief minister.
"The cabinet decision taken by the government of revoking the order of transfer of land to the SASB is unconstitutional and void," JKNPP legislative party leader Harshed Dev Singh told reporters here.
"A minority government's cabinet cannot take such a decision. This is mockery of governance."
Singh said Governor N N Vohra should intervene and dismiss the present government. He alleged that the Congress is making desperate efforts to prove its majority in the state assembly on July 7.

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Shares in Reliance Communications surged 12.5 percent on Friday on expectations some clarity may soon emerge on its exclusive talks with South Africa's MTN Group that end next week.
The 45-day period of exclusivity ends on July 8, Reliance Communications has said, and some analysts and traders say the two firms may agree to extend talks or offer some other direction on a deal that could create a top-10 global telecom firm.
"There is an expectation that MTN may agree to an extension of talks," said a dealer who asked not to be named.
"But the question is for how long and under what conditions?"
An extension would give Reliance Communications chairman Anil Ambani some time to try to resolve a claim of right of first refusal on the telecom's shares by his estranged brother Mukesh, who runs Reliance Industries, India's largest firm.
Some traders and analysts expect Reliance Communications could make some sort of a statement on Sunday, July 6, the death anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of the Reliance group.
"They are not likely to say a deal has been done," said Nishna Biyani, telecom analyst at Prabhudas Lilladher.
"They will probably say they are extending talks; that is if both firms are agreeable to a deal." Continued...

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Shares in Reliance Communications surged 12.5 percent on Friday on expectations some clarity may soon emerge on its exclusive talks with South Africa's MTN Group that end next week.
The 45-day period of exclusivity ends on July 8, Reliance Communications has said, and some analysts and traders say the two firms may agree to extend talks or offer some other direction on a deal that could create a top-10 global telecom firm.
"There is an expectation that MTN may agree to an extension of talks," said a dealer who asked not to be named.
"But the question is for how long and under what conditions?"
An extension would give Reliance Communications chairman Anil Ambani some time to try to resolve a claim of right of first refusal on the telecom's shares by his estranged brother Mukesh, who runs Reliance Industries, India's largest firm.
Some traders and analysts expect Reliance Communications could make some sort of a statement on Sunday, July 6, the death anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of the Reliance group.
"They are not likely to say a deal has been done," said Nishna Biyani, telecom analyst at Prabhudas Lilladher.
"They will probably say they are extending talks; that is if both firms are agreeable to a deal." Continued...

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Shares in Reliance Communications surged 12.5 percent on Friday on expectations some clarity may soon emerge on its exclusive talks with South Africa's MTN Group that end next week.
The 45-day period of exclusivity ends on July 8, Reliance Communications has said, and some analysts and traders say the two firms may agree to extend talks or offer some other direction on a deal that could create a top-10 global telecom firm.
"There is an expectation that MTN may agree to an extension of talks," said a dealer who asked not to be named.

Malkangiri: Divers of Indian Navy, who have been searching the dead bodies of missing Greyhound Jawans following Maoists attack on Sunday in Chitrakonda across the Balimela Reservoir able to trace out 5 more bodies today taking the number of bodies recovered to 15.
According to Home Department sources the Divers pulled out five bodies after breaking open a portion of the launch sunk at a depth of 43 metres in the reservoir. Sophisticated equipment was being used to cut open the door of the sunken vessel and scan it thoroughly to look for bodies inside it.
More naval divers joined the search operation being conducted by over 1,000 personnel from the Indian Navy, the Greyhound Force, Orissa Police, Special Operation Group and the CRPF. Ten bodies were recovered till Thursday while 23 personnel are still missing.
A total 28 of the 66 people, mostly Greyhound jawans of Andhra Pradesh, on board the launch had managed to swim ashore after the Maoist attack.
At this critical juncture let us reaffirm our resolve to face the challenge of extremists together in a spirit of mutual support and cooperation, Patnaik stated in his letter to YS Rajashekar Reddy. The Chief Minister said that both Andhra and Orissa police have been working together and will continue to do so in their joint operations against the leftwing insurgency.
He informed his Andhra counterpart that he had issued instructions to Orissa police to extend all possible cooperation in the ongoing search and rescue operations. "The Andhra jawans who died in the attack were great patriots" he said adding that he had announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia each to the bereaved families.

Malkangiri: Divers of Indian Navy, who have been searching the dead bodies of missing Greyhound Jawans following Maoists attack on Sunday in Chitrakonda across the Balimela Reservoir able to trace out 5 more bodies today taking the number of bodies recovered to 15.
According to Home Department sources the Divers pulled out five bodies after breaking open a portion of the launch sunk at a depth of 43 metres in the reservoir. Sophisticated equipment was being used to cut open the door of the sunken vessel and scan it thoroughly to look for bodies inside it.
More naval divers joined the search operation being conducted by over 1,000 personnel from the Indian Navy, the Greyhound Force, Orissa Police, Special Operation Group and the CRPF. Ten bodies were recovered till Thursday while 23 personnel are still missing.
A total 28 of the 66 people, mostly Greyhound jawans of Andhra Pradesh, on board the launch had managed to swim ashore after the Maoist attack.
At this critical juncture let us reaffirm our resolve to face the challenge of extremists together in a spirit of mutual support and cooperation, Patnaik stated in his letter to YS Rajashekar Reddy. The Chief Minister said that both Andhra and Orissa police have been working together and will continue to do so in their joint operations against the leftwing insurgency.
He informed his Andhra counterpart that he had issued instructions to Orissa police to extend all possible cooperation in the ongoing search and rescue operations. "The Andhra jawans who died in the attack were great patriots" he said adding that he had announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia each to the bereaved families.

Rescue boosts Uribe's standing

The successful rescue of 15 hostages from the clutches of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc) has had a massive political impact, nationally and internationally.
It has boosted President Alvaro Uribe and his tough stance against the Marxist rebels and silenced demands that the government make concessions to the guerrillas.
Now the perception is that the military defeat of the Farc is not only possible but inevitable, something that seven years ago would have been unthinkable, when the guerrilla army numbered more than 16,000 fighters and held sway in over a third of the country.
"We are at the end of the end of the Farc," said Admiral Guillermo Barrera, the head of the Colombian Navy.
Praise for president
The latest operation has shown what total disarray the Farc are in and how there appears to be little, if any, reliable contact between the ruling body and the commanders on the ground.
The rescue has vindicated Mr Uribe's uncompromising position with respect to negotiating with the Farc and justified his refusal to make concessions in order to gain the release of hostages.
He had been under pressure from French President Nicolas Sarkozy to secure the release of Ingrid Betancourt - and in a rather more outspoken manner by Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, who called Mr Uribe, among others things, a "mafioso" and a "warmonger" for his refusal to sit down with the guerrillas.

Now both leaders have softened their positions. The French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, who accompanied Ms Betancourt's children as they travelled from Paris to meet up with their mother, spoke for President Sarkozy and said that France "admired what had been done".
President Chavez said he was "delighted" and "jubilant" at the successful rescue and was looking forward to welcoming Mr Uribe for a planned visit in the near future admitting that "we said some hard things. Between brothers such things happen".
In January, the Venezuelan leader called for the Farc to be taken off international terrorist lists and insisted the rebels be recognised as a legitimate belligerent force.
He has since backtracked on that, condemning the guerrillas for their policy of kidnapping and telling them that it was time to end the fighting.
Consummate politician
The successful rescue of the hostages will no doubt boost Mr Uribe's already staggering approval ratings, which hover at around 80%.
It will also perhaps secure any re-election plans he might have. President Uribe has already changed the constitution once, which allowed him to stand again as a candidate in the 2006 elections.
He has not ruled out tampering with the constitution once more and indeed one of the political parties that support him, Partido de la U, is currently working on collecting enough signatures to trigger a referendum on the matter.
Ms Betancourt also supported any potential re-election bid by Mr Uribe, when she said that the 2006 re-election of Mr Uribe, with his hard-line policies, was seen by the guerrillas as a great blow. When asked about a third Uribe term she said:

"Why not? It is interesting. That does not mean to say that I would necessarily vote for him as perhaps I have more affinity with other candidates."
And what now for Ingrid Betancourt?
She looks set to pick up where she left off in February 2002 when she was kidnapped by the Farc at a rebel road block.
Then, she was campaigning for the Colombian presidency and since her release she has acted like the consummate politician she is, talking exhaustively with the media, praising the military, the government and the foreign nations that worked so hard on behalf of the kidnap victims.
She already has her new mission mapped out, fighting for the liberation of the hostages still in Farc hands.
"We need to fight for the freedom of the others, who are still in the jungle, still held by Farc," she said.
"There are a lot of people round the world who want to help us - fighting for the liberty of other Colombians."
The former presidential candidate, now with a profile and status the envy of politicians the world over, is in a very strong position to act as ambassador and activist for the release of the remaining hostages and the search for an end to the country's 44-year civil conflict.
Ingrid Betancourt will now no doubt be a permanent fixture on Colombia's political stage.

Orissa government has ordered a probe and announced compensation of Rs one lakh to the families of those killed in the stampede during the annual Rath Yatra.
The government has also announced that it will bear the expenses of the treatment of those injured.
At least six people were killed and four injured in a stampede during the Rath Yatra on Friday, officials said.
Director General of Police Gopal Chandra Nanda said, ''Six people died in the stampede. Policemen have rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.''
A district police official said the incident occurred when devotees tried to get close to goddess Subhadra's chariot, which was being taken across Puri, about 65 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
However, a local television channel said the number of injured was over 50 and about 10 had sustained serious wounds. Many of those in critical condition have been moved to Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medial College Hospital at Cuttack, about 26 km from Bhubaneswar.
About a million devotees gathered here to see the idols of god Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra being carried in chariots from the 12th century Jagannath temple to another shrine called Gundicha in the same town.
